Pre-Match Report: Washington Spirit vs. Gotham FC

NEW YORK  — It is rivalry week in the NWSL and tonight’s fixture is a rematch between the Washington Spirit and Gotham FC. Their last meeting being the thrilling 2025 NWSL championship where the Spirit lost 1-0. A goal scored in the waning minutes of the second half by Gotham’s Rose Lavelle in the 80th minute left Washington hungry to win it all in the 2026 season. Currently the Spirit sit at second in rankings after a decisive win against the North Carolina Courage.

The Spirit haven’t beat Gotham since the 2024 playoffs, advancing after a 3-0 penalty shootout. Most of the last few matches have ended in a tie, neither team able to find the game winner. As Washington looks to  continue a three game winning streak, Gotham not only aims to end it but start their own as they come off a 3-1 win against the Utah Royals.
