WASHINGTON --- Earning a spot in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup final is the Washington Spirit with a 1-0 win over Pachuca tonight. Although Pachuca had 52% of possession, Washington Spirit was able to take home the win.
Pachuca has a chance with a cross that comes in from Charlyn Corra, Kelly Caicedo gets a head on the ball, directing it low but hitting the post. For the Washington Spirit, ending the first half with many chances, Kouassi dashes down the field with plenty of space in front of her, touching it around the goalie, but ending up too far away from the goal to get a shot off. Only two minutes later, a through ball from Tara Rudd to Trinity Rodman. Rodman takes a touch past the defender, upsettingly hitting the far side post.
In the 81st minute, Lucia Di Guglielmo cut inside a defender and slipped the ball to Claudia Martinez, whose initial effort was saved by the goalkeeper, but the rebound fell back to her, allowing her to walk the ball into the back of the net with the first and only goal of the match. Two minutes into extra time, Charlyn Corral unleashed a shot from outside the 18-yard box, but Sandy Maclver made a beautiful save, punching it out of bounds.
With this victory, Washington Spirit advances to the final, where they will face Club America on Saturday.
