DC Withstands Houston Pressure

HOUSTON — DC United was under fire from Houston’s offensive pressure early in the match. With few opportunities in and around the Dynamo box, United remained patient. Even with great defensive effort, a set piece allowed Houston to score first late in the first half. Houston Dynamo’s #16 Héctor Herrera slipped the ball behind #1 Sean Johnson into the goal to give them the lead. Though DC moved to even the score, they were unable to before the end of the half.
Going into the second half, Houston’s offensive front continued to pressure DC, catching them off guard at times with a ball over the back line. However, United maintained a physical defensive game, complicating Houston’s opportunities. Forward #22 Nathan Ordaz debuted for DC, coming from LAFC, amidst a couple of changes for United as they tried to find better footing. Later, DC found success when they created chaos in the Dynamo box for a 78th-minute goal, a header from #9 Tai Baribo with an assist from Ordaz, tying the match. As DC worked to bat away Houston’s efforts, they themselves looked to find the game-winner. In the waning minutes of the match, DC had to buckle down defensively. Despite numerous efforts from the Houston Dynamo, they were unable to overcome United’s defense before the final whistle.
