Wizards' Justin Champagnie has foot surgery, team hopes for All-Star break return

Washington Wizards wing Justin Champagnie underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a fracture in his right foot, Josh Robbins reported.

Champagnie suffered the injury during Monday's game in Charlotte, according to Robbins. The team is hoping he can return by the All-Star break, Robbins reported.

The news comes with the Wizards sitting at 2-2 and seventh in the Eastern Conference, and it arrives on the same day the team gets a lift elsewhere on the roster. No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa, who missed the first four games of the season with an ankle injury, has been upgraded to available for Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN reported.

Washington visits Cleveland on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET. Dybantsa is slated to make his NBA debut in that game.

For now, the All-Star break stands as the target the team is hoping Champagnie can meet in his recovery from the foot surgery, per Robbins.
