Wise forfeits four football wins over a residency violation

UPPER MARLBORO, Md., Wise High School has forfeited its first four football wins of the season over a student-athlete residency violation, High School On SI reported Saturday.
The forfeited games are Wise's wins over Laurel (53-6), Flowers (25-22 in overtime), Bowie (51-0) and DuVal (71-6).
Athletic director Jason Gordon explained the ruling in an email to the school's football community, according to the report. Gordon wrote that the school learned of a potential residency violation on the eve of its Week 6 game. The school appealed to the Infraction Panel and to the MPSSAA, and he wrote that both appeals were denied and the original finding and penalties were upheld.
The forfeits move Wise from 8-0 to 4-4 in the official standings. The Pumas, No. 13 in the DMV HS Football Coaches Association Top 25, drop from the No. 1 seed to No. 4 in the Class 4A South Region. Flowers moves to No. 1 with a first-round bye, followed by Suitland and Parkdale, according to the report.
Wise finished the regular season Friday night with a 77-0 win over Northwestern.
The Pumas have reached the Class 4A state final in each of the last two seasons, losing both times to Quince Orchard.
