WCAC adds girls flag football as a varsity sport, with Commanders support

WASHINGTON, The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference has made girls flag football its newest varsity sport, the conference announced Friday. Member schools will begin official competition in the spring 2027 season.
"We are thrilled to bring girls’ flag football under the WCAC umbrella," WCAC commissioner Dwayne Foster said in the announcement. He added that member schools "are eager to kick off the inaugural season in Spring 2027."
The Washington Commanders will support the WCAC programs, which join more than 175 Commanders-backed girls flag teams across the region, according to the conference. Participating schools will receive financial resources, protective headbands and access to the Commanders' girls flag programs, including player and coach clinics, season kickoffs and championship celebrations.
"The Commanders are excited to welcome the WCAC into the region’s growing girls flag football community," said Dan Levy, the team's director of youth football.
The conference said the spring 2027 schedule, the list of participating schools and championship details will be released in the coming months. The WCAC has 13 member schools.
