Virginia created more shots, but Syracuse supplied all of the goals in a 3-0 ACC victory at Turf Field on Sept. 25.

The ninth-ranked Cavaliers fell to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play. No. 11 Syracuse established a two-goal halftime lead and added a fourth-quarter finish, leaving Virginia without a goal for the second time in three games.

Sammie Goin opened the scoring at 7:02 with Aubrey Turner assisting. Turner made it 2-0 at 26:43 after a Virginia turnover near its own cage. Karsin Beatty added the final goal at 54:05, assisted by Jess Liddell, according to Virginia’s official recap.

The official box score shows how efficiently Syracuse used its opportunities. The Orange attempted one shot in each of the first three quarters and three in the fourth. All six of those attempts were on goal. Three went in, and Nilou Lempers saved the other three.

Virginia took 14 shots, including nine after halftime, but Jessie Eiselin stopped all six on target. Caitlin Connell led the Cavaliers with six attempts and four shots on goal. Riley Savage and Livvy Barker supplied the other on-target chances.

Virginia’s shot total grew as the game progressed, from one in the opening quarter to five in the fourth. That increase did not change the scoreboard. Syracuse entered halftime ahead despite being outshot over the first 30 minutes, then kept the Cavaliers from making the game close.

The loss opened Virginia’s home stretch with a clear finishing problem: enough attempts to threaten, but none converted against Eiselin and the Orange.
