New scorers help Maryland open with 3–0 win over Drexel — August 28, 2026

Maryland began its 2026 field hockey season with contributions from three scorers and a shared shutout, beating Drexel 3–0 on Aug. 28 at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park.
Aida Ierubino and Babs van Hest gave the No. 13 Terrapins a two-goal lead in the first quarter. Madeline Vasilios added the third after halftime as Maryland won its 30th consecutive season opener, according to the university's recap.
Ierubino struck at 7:34, and van Hest followed at 12:20. Maryland's opening-quarter advantage extended beyond the scoreboard: the Terps took nine shots while allowing one. They entered halftime ahead 2–0 after building a 13–2 shot margin.
Vasilios scored at 37:02 to increase the lead. Maryland did not allow a Drexel shot in that third quarter, reducing the visitors' opportunities to get back into the game before the final period.
The official box score recorded a 28–5 advantage in shots and a 14–1 edge in shots on goal for Maryland. Drexel's 11 saves kept the margin from expanding further. The Terrapins also finished with four penalty corners to the Dragons' two.
Alyssa Klebasko handled the first three quarters in goal before Ryleigh Osborne played the fourth. Together they completed the shutout, giving Maryland a clean defensive start alongside the early production from its attack.
The opener left the Terrapins 1–0 and extended their perfect record against Drexel to 11 wins in 11 meetings. Maryland's next scheduled game was the second half of its Conference Cup weekend, against Temple on Aug. 30.
