Josefina Tomasi redirected Julieta Tornati’s penalty-corner delivery for the deciding goal as Liberty defeated James Madison 2–1 in overtime on Sept. 6 in Harrisonburg. The victory completed a two-win road weekend and sent the 14th-ranked Lady Flames to 3–1.

Tornati scored Liberty’s first goal and assisted on its last. Between those finishes, James Madison forced overtime through Brynna Hill’s fourth-quarter equalizer. The Dukes dropped to 0–3. Liberty’s official recap describes Tomasi’s close-range redirect as the play that settled the teams’ first overtime meeting.

Liberty had controlled much of the opening half without scoring. The Lady Flames led 9–2 in shots at the break, but the game remained scoreless until Tornati converted Dara Semmartin’s setup in the third quarter.

The official box score places that breakthrough at 41:26 and Hill’s response, assisted by Puck Jansen, at 46:44.

Liberty finished with a 19–8 shot advantage and 12 penalty corners to JMU’s six. The distribution also shows how the contest tightened: James Madison earned four corners and attempted four shots in the fourth quarter, while Liberty had one shot and no corners in that period.

In overtime, the Lady Flames regained the attacking edge, recording three shots and two corners while holding the Dukes without a shot. Their second corner produced the finish they needed. The win followed Liberty’s 5–1 victory at Saint Joseph’s and gave the Lady Flames a successful conclusion to four games away from home to start the season.
