Howard football hosts South Carolina State on Thursday night at Greene Stadium

The Howard Bison (4-5, 1-1 conference) host the South Carolina State Bulldogs (7-2, 2-0 conference) on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. ET at Greene Stadium in Washington. ESPNU has the broadcast.

How the Bison got here

Howard comes in after a 34-0 loss at North Carolina Central on Saturday, Oct. 31. Before that, the Bison won two straight: 31-17 over Morehouse at home on Oct. 17 and 26-20 in overtime at Morgan State on Oct. 24. Howard also beat Hampton 27-13 on Oct. 3 and lost 24-20 at Pennsylvania on Oct. 10.

Quarterback Ja'Shawn Scroggins has completed 98 of 196 passes for 1,092 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Eden James leads the ground game with 317 yards and three touchdowns on 51 carries. Semaj Pierre has 25 catches for 245 yards.

On defense, Rodney Roane has 4.5 sacks and Kaleb Gallop leads the team with 48 tackles.

The Bulldogs

South Carolina State has won its last two, most recently 51-10 at Morgan State on Thursday, Oct. 29. Before that, the Bulldogs beat Norfolk State 22-7 at home on Oct. 24. They lost 49-39 at Charleston Southern on Oct. 10 and 34-31 to The Citadel at home on Oct. 3, and beat Bethune-Cookman 31-21 on the road Sept. 26.

Quarterback Keely Watson has completed 139 of 214 passes for 1,647 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. Mason Pickett-Hicks has rushed for 793 yards and seven touchdowns on 108 carries. DJ Maultsby has 25 receptions for 468 yards and four scores.

Ka Von Chisolm leads the Bulldogs with seven sacks, and Jadin Jones has a team-high 31 tackles.

Common opponent

Both teams faced Morgan State in October. Howard won 26-20 in overtime on the road on Oct. 24. South Carolina State won 51-10 on the road five days later.
