Charleston sweeps Hampton despite a closer third set

Hampton saved its strongest set for last on Saturday, but Charleston closed it 25–23 to complete a volleyball sweep at TD Arena. The Pirates lost 25–17, 25–14, 25–23 and fell to 2–14 overall and 0–6 in CAA play.
Charleston improved to 17–2 and 8–0 in the conference. Its attack produced 16 kills in each set, including a .467 hitting percentage in the second, when the Cougars finished with an 11-point margin.
Hampton hit .192 in the third after .125 and .053 in the opening sets. Lillian Campbell, Olivia Bryant and Nikola Jaroszewicz each finished with six kills. Ana Luiza Caminha Matos supplied 16 assists, and Dila Derendeli led the Pirates with seven digs.
The Cougars hit .316 overall against Hampton’s .114 and led kills 48–27. Caroline Noonan finished with nine kills, Gabby Tuiaana had eight and Rosa Brencic added seven. Jumana Martin recorded 11 digs.
Charleston also led service aces 8–1 and blocks 7–5. Hampton kept the third set within two points, but could not extend the match after dropping the opening two.
