Quinn puts execution at center of Commanders’ Monday review

Dan Quinn put Washington’s late-game communication and substitutions at the center of Monday’s review after the Commanders let a 14-point fourth-quarter lead become a 27–27 tie with the Giants. His explanation began with his own responsibility for the situational instructions.
Washington is 1–3–1 heading into its Monday, Oct. 19 visit to San Francisco at 8:15 p.m. Eastern. Jayden Daniels’ return supplied 199 passing yards, 103 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns Sunday, but the Commanders could not convert that production into a win. They led 27–13 before Jameis Winston’s touchdown passes to Isaiah Likely and Malik Nabers forced overtime.
Quinn said the offense wanted to use time once it reached field-goal range. The sequence after Rachaad White’s carry with about 56 seconds remaining moved too slowly, particularly the personnel change. In hindsight, Quinn said, Washington should have kept the same group on the field and gotten back to the line faster. David Blough called the plays, but the guidelines governing them came from Quinn.
The final failure wasted a fresh opportunity created by the defense. Daron Payne forced Cam Skattebo to fumble in overtime, and Shy Tuttle recovered. Washington reached the Giants’ 24-yard line, but time expired before Drew Stevens could attempt the winning kick. New York had already missed a field goal on an earlier overtime possession.
Monday’s review also covered three false starts and missed fourth-quarter chances. Quinn said Washington would keep using an additional official in line-of-scrimmage work, with cadence and communication receiving attention.
Availability remains unsettled. Quinn said Javonte Jean-Baptiste hurt his pectoral muscle and the team was still gathering information. He was encouraged by Stefon Diggs’ and Nick Cross’ rehabilitation reports but deferred the fuller practice update until Thursday. His comments did not clear either player to return.
