Commanders put Terry McLaurin on IR, sign Van Jefferson from the practice squad

The Washington Commanders placed wide receiver Terry McLaurin on injured reserve Wednesday. McLaurin will miss the rest of the 2026 season with the patellar tendon injury he suffered in the Oct. 19 loss at San Francisco.
To fill his roster spot, Washington signed wide receiver Van Jefferson from the practice squad. Jefferson, who was elevated for the Week 5 tie with the Giants, returns to the active roster as the Commanders come out of their bye.
The Commanders also designated defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton to return to practice, opening a 21-day window in which he can be activated. Newton has been out with a torn pectoral, per Ben Standig of The Athletic. To replace Jefferson on the practice squad, Washington signed linebacker Kyle Kennard.
