Spirit Rally From 2-0 Down to Earn Draw at Racing Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Washington Spirit scored twice in the second half, with goals from Sofia Cantore and Leicy Santos, to earn a point against Racing Louisville on Friday night.
Despite controlling the match and dominating attacking statistics, including creating two big chances, the Spirit failed to secure their first win of the season. Washington held a 72 to 28 advantage in possession, outshot Louisville 20 to 8, and finished with a 1.71 to 0.86 edge in expected goals.
Racing Louisville opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Kayla Fischer finished a well-timed chance. The hosts extended their lead in the 42nd minute through Emma Sears, who capped a slick counterattack that began near her own penalty area to make it 2-0 before halftime.
Washington came out of the break with urgency and intensity, pushing forward in search of a response. The breakthrough came in the 50th minute when Cantore fired a long-range strike from outside the box, cutting the deficit in half with one of the early contenders for goal of the season.
The pressure continued to build, and the equalizer arrived in the 73rd minute. Rosemonde Kouassi made one of her trademark runs down the right flank and delivered a precise cross to Santos, who calmly finished to level the match.
Washington pressed for a winner late but could not convert despite sustained attacking pressure.
The Spirit return home to Audi Field on March 25 to face the Utah Royals.
