Abrams drives in all three runs as Nationals beat Tigers, 3–1

CJ Abrams hit two home runs and drove in all three Washington runs as the Nationals defeated the Detroit Tigers 3–1 on Tuesday at Comerica Park.

Abrams opened Washington’s scoring with a solo home run off Drew Anderson in the second inning. His second homer, a two-run shot in the seventh, accounted for the rest of the Nationals’ offense. He finished 2-for-4.

Riley Cornelio started for Washington and pitched 2⅔ scoreless innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out four. Jackson Kent followed with four innings, giving up one run on six hits and earning the win.

Jack Sinclair delivered 1⅓ scoreless innings, and Erik Tolman struck out three in the ninth to close the game. Washington’s four pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.

Detroit scored its only run in the sixth inning. Anderson was charged with three runs on five hits in six innings, with five strikeouts and no walks.

Both teams finished with seven hits. Dylan Crews joined Abrams with two hits for Washington, while James Wood, Andres Chaparro and Keibert Ruiz had one each. Crews also stole two bases.
