Thursday watch guide: a local soccer matchup, JMU on the road and Wizards at the Garden

Thursday’s selected schedule moves from a local women’s soccer matchup to college volleyball and the Wizards’ preseason visit to New York. All start times below are Eastern.

George Mason visits GW in women’s soccer at 3 p.m. on October 8. GW’s official preview lists ESPN+ coverage and a Senior Day ceremony at the Mount Vernon campus before kickoff. The ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.; the match begins half an hour later.

The matchup gives the local schedule an afternoon starting point. GW comes off a scoreless draw at Duquesne, while Mason’s previewed record includes a win over Richmond in its previous match. Thursday brings the two local programs together.

JMU volleyball visits Marshall at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The Dukes’ official athletics calendar also lists a second match at Marshall on Friday, October 9, at 3 p.m., making Thursday the start of a two-match road set.

The Wizards visit the Knicks at Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m. for their preseason opener. Fans in the DMV can watch on Monumental Sports Network.

The Wizards’ game-specific player availability and minutes plans remain unconfirmed at press time.
