Best 703/571 Public School Football Games (Week 8)
#24 Oakton (6-0) vs. Westfield (5-1)
The Cougars stand as the only undefeated team left in the Concorde District, after one of the craziest and controversial games in the DMV this season: one of the biggest officiating blunders in DMV history: a 5th-down call going for Oakton, contributed to a stunning 42-38 comeback win for Oakton after being down by as much as 17 in the 4th quarter. Oakton’s juggernaut offense has put up no less than 32 points in a single game this year, and is certainly not looking back. Westfield comes off a defeat on the road against Madison 20-6, and this week they hope to bounce back from their first loss of the season against a tough opponent. Oakton boasts the likes of Deylen Jones, Colin Henriques, Timmy Volciak, Brayden Vasquez, and Jack Martin among others, who all delivered against South Lakes last week. Westfield boasts the likes of Aaron Preti’s passing, Casey O’Neal’s rushing, as well as PJ Sutherland's receiving and rushing ability. The Cougars and the Bulldogs meet on Westfield’s campus this Friday at 7:00pm.
Centreville (5-1) vs. #15 Madison (5-1)
Centreville comes into this game coming off their first shutout of the year: a statement 24-0 victory over Chantilly at home, giving them a four-game winning streak so far. Madison comes off a 20-6 humbling of Westfield, as mentioned earlier in the article. Both teams so far have been defined by superb defenses, with both teams possessing shutout wins. Both teams possess offenses that can get the job done whenever it matters. Centreville’s relatively small roster has been defined by the success of their two-way talents such as Nick Solomon, Henry Porter, Jacob Birnbaum, and Joey Sayen to name a few. Quarterback Dhillon Ball also possesses a run game as good as any quarterback in the region. The whole defensive unit for Centreville has delivered time and time again. Madison’s success has been defined by a very gritty group including the likes of Lucas Vacaflor leading the offense with his arms, and the receiving of Kellan Counts as well as the running of William Helvey, Andrew Mau, and WIll Smoot. The Wildcats and the Warhawks meet on Madison’s campus this Friday at 7:00pm.
Kettle Run (5-1) vs. #12 Sherando (6-0)
Kettle Run rides the cusp of a five game winning streak, including an impressive 38-28 win over Class 4 standouts Handley two weeks ago, and is among the best teams in all of Class 3. Their offense has put no less than 24 points in a single game and has scored 234 points of total offense. Sherando is one of the best teams in Class 4 so far this year, and is unbeaten in their first six games, with their most notable wins including James Wood as well as Loudoun County. Quarterback Dycen Tapscott leads the Kettle Run offense, but the player to watch on this time for a while has been Christian Lubbe, who has already put up 1,111 rushing yards this year. Sherando boasts talent such as the likes of Jaylen Tasco-Murray, Pete Carter, Chase Deibert, Noah Taylor. But perhaps the most prominent player on that squad is defensive lineman Evan Combs, who has attracted his fair share of collegiate attention in recent times. The Cougars and the Warriors meet on Sherando’s campus this Friday at 7:00pm.
